Inlays / Onlays

A more conservative alternative to Crowns, Inlays and Onlays are dental restoration techniques used to restore normal tooth structure after large decay or damage where a filling would not be able to. Onlays preserve the maximum amount of healthy tooth structure while restoring the damaged areas of the teeth

These are replacements for crowns and are bonded (adhered) to the teeth vs traditionally cemented. This reduces the risk of recurrent decay and saves more of your enamel which is the ideal surface to bond to (much better strength).   Whereas dental fillings are molded into place within the mouth during a dental visit, inlays and onlays (also known as indirect fillings) are fabricated indirectly in a dental lab before being fitted and bonded to the damaged tooth by your dentist, these restorations are beneficial from both an aesthetic and functional point of view. Inlays and Onlays can often be used in place of traditional dental crowns to treat tooth decay or similar structural damage.  Onlays are great alternative to crowns on root canal teeth as well.
